Instead, the wireframe model consists of pure lines, circles, arcs, and so on. These objects are ideal for creating beam and truss models. The wireframe models can also be imported as constructions objects and used as the edges of a hand-built mesh, such as meshes between two objects.

If the geometry is planar and encloses one or more regions, it can be automatically meshed with the 2D mesh generator.

See Mesh Hand-built Models. Autodesk Inventor files are a special case in which you can mix solid, surface, and 3D sketch geometry. Furthermore, Simulation Mechanical can import this mixed geometry. The wireframe geometry is suitable for use as construction lines or line-type elements such as beams and trusses. These options are selected by pressing the Options button on the Open dialog.

Thread starter cro. I'm curious if it's possible to draw a wire frame on multiple planes and have Solidworks 3 dimensionally spline them together to form a solid shell?

Also, in attacking things from a different angle, how can one create a multiple plane wire frame from a 3d part?

I am very new to Solidworks, but seem to be picking it up at a decent pace. I am runningbut is available to play with if necessary. Chris Orth. Chris, why are you using wireframe? Is this an autocad question? If you have a wireframe sketch you can extrude that 2D section to create any such solid. Chris, Steve is right if you have simple 2-D wireframes. In that case it is easier to just use normal methods to create the part, but I have found that if you have complex shapes with blending curves starting with the wireframe is best.

Creating fillets does not always achieve the desired goals. The way I have accomplished what you are talking about is using surfaces. I create the wireframe and then use surfaces to "skin" the frame. When I have covered the entire object I knit it together and form a solid.

I have found that I get better control of lofting and sweeping under the surface menu then under the solid menu. On your multiplne wire frame, you start by creating all the planes you feel will be necessary for your wireframe.

Then you create a 3d sketch and draw your wire frame. While in a 3d-sketch you can choose different planes to draw on and mate the entities to that. I prefer to create as many individual 2D sketche as I can on the required planes and only Use the 3d sketch for complex curve lines to connect the 2-d Sketches. I hope this helps. Thanks Steve and Shawn. I am trying to do the more complex curves and it seems this is the way to go. I have figured out basically how to get the wireframe going, but am having difficulty creating the skin. By 'difficulty' I mean no luck what so ever. There is something I am missing. I can't figure this out and have tried looking at multiple google searches and community posts which all seem to be out of date If you do not want to view the images, files or additional information, please skip all other sections. For uni, I have to create a stage design for a festival.

The idea behind the design is a Mountain troll leaning on some buildings with LED veins which change colour, lava falling from the mouth and down the sides of the buildings it is leaning on. I attempted to design the main feature, the head, in Autodesk originally, however I could not get it to look how I wanted it. I decided to move to a more modelling based program, Zbrush 4R7, which makes a great model head. It looked exactly how I wanted it. I attempted to export this file to use within Autodesk inventor, and I could not get anything to convert it into a solid shape.

The closest I got was a wire mesh shape which claimed to be converted, however, it wasn't possible to interact with and modify. I need the file to be converted into a solid so that I can manipulate it within Autodesk software to use within my design.

Please help me out. You have to make sure your polylines are closed. That tends to be the most difficult part when you have to lines intersecting at such acute angles. Well, First your original drawing contained none of your original polylines. The border was simple because it was already closed. Once it was converted to a Pline it extruded no problem. This is a hit and miss deal in that it must also be closed to create the region.

The Innermost Ring was a little troublesome because it was not closed and I had to find the open points and close them manually.

Login to Give a bone. With what software do you have access in order to possibly do this? No software, just a file? I've created a part in Solid Works and want to send it into AutoCad but as a part, not a dwg. I find it easier to design a solid model in SolidWorks but I like the annimations in AutoCad and would like to utilize its advantages.

Once again It would be nice to be able to create a solid part and drag it into ACAD I really neeed help on this ASAP, so any of u old timers feel the need to help, it would be greatly appreciated. Plz give user freindly details THXS.

Converting wireframe geometry into a Civil 3D solid model - Part 1

It was a seperate piece of software not free meant to translate design data. You could also contact your dealer, they have the NRF software to check things out. You cannot do this. About the only way to do what you are trying to do is bring it into Inventor and maybe have a chance with it there.

However, I have heard, highlight the word heard, that Inventor has no real way to bring the model over to AutoCAD either. Even with the advances of software it wtill has issues when using a real solid model. The software mentioned above may work, but I gaurantee you will have a limit to the complexity of the part or assembly. You will also see by reading the information on the software that it is limited to bringing only a solid over and nothing else.
